The reason I chose this picture is because it has a black hole.  Black holes have always fascinated me, and this picture does a nice job of showing why.  First there's the fact that something so small is doing something so huge.  Though it looks to be only a fraction of the size of the sun it's next to it's mere prescense is ripping that sun apart.  Second is the fact that this object, which seems so stricking because of its destructive capabilities, is seemingly nothing.  Literally nothing.  it so dense that light itself cannot escape.  
That alone is hypnotic. I chose this picture in particular because I have seen it before and think its one of the better, though likely less accurate, pictures of a black hole's effects.
